Whilst making a website used to require knowledge of coding languages and other technical skills, that is no longer the case. Now, website builders such as Wix, Squarespace and Wordpress allow anyone, with any level of technical experience, to build a website within the space of just a few hours.

This has empowered many different types of people who would previously not have been able to express their ideas or showcase their products and services, levelling the playing field and giving consumers more choice - all good things.

However, whilst website builders, such as Wix, Wordpress and Squarespace, make it incredibly easy to build beautiful looking websites, building an effective site is much harder and takes thought and dedication.

Larger websites have teams of people with formal training in web design but most designers don't have that luxury.

Founded by Tom Berry, a market researcher with nearly 10 years’ experience working with some of the largest retail websites in the UK, WebsiteExperience.co.uk has two main aims:

Promote good website design and the importance of delivering a fantastic visitor experience.

Provide accessible and actionable advice and guidance to amateur website designers and small businesses.

On this site you can read about why delivering a great visitor experience matters and how we can help you achieve that. For any questions, queries or anything else - get in touch.

Are you a website design business?

No - we simply provide website design advice and guidance. Our background is in understanding what makes a great visitor experience of browsing a website and, apart from this one, we don't make websites ourselves.

Can you work on my website directly?

No (see above). We can definitely help pinpoint where on your site you should focus, and specifically what you need to do, but we can't currently implement our recommendations.

If you're so knowledgeable, why isn't your website perfect?

No-one's is. Making a website is hard and there are so many areas where you need to work to deliver a great experience. Fortunately, our (and your) website doesn't need to be perfect. Time should be spent focusing on the things that actually matter to visitors, and we shouldn't worry too much about the things we know could be better but ultimately won't have a large impact. If there's genuinely a part of this site that doesn't work for you - we'd love you to get in touch. Like any site, identifying the issue is the first step to making an improvement.

I've built a website but I'm not particularly technically-minded. Can you still help me?

Absolutely. The biggest, most common issues we see with small business websites are non-technical and can easily be improved by anyone who is able to use a keyboard and a website editor. There is also a tonne of great information on the internet that will help you through some of the more technical recommendations, including help from your web builder (if you're using one).
